I feel privileged to serve as the American Baptist chaplain to Harvard students along with my duties as pastor to the congregation at Old Cambridge Baptist Church. I grew up in South Carolina "playing church" in my back yard in a small chapel I begged my father and grandfather to build for me, convinced I would become a church organist someday. The vocation of ministry is in my bones. But as a queer person, I wasn't always certain the path into ministry would be possible.

Today, I find a great deal of significance working on pastoral and justice concerns at the intersection of sexuality and religion. I've written a number of books and articles on the subject, including a dissertation on suicide among LGBTQ people, looking at the ways religious and spiritual narratives have an impact the livability of life for queer people and how LGBTQ people exercise their agency as transgressive theologians to queer life-constricting theological constructs.

I earned a B.A. in religious studies and psychology from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC, the M.Div. from the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University in Atlanta, GA, an M.S. in community counseling from Mercer, and the Ph.D. in pastoral theology and pastoral counseling from Brite Divinity School at TCU in Fort Worth, TX. Much of my academic work and clinical training has helped me become an appreciative ally and compassionate companion on the journey for those addressing the joys, sorrows, struggles, and important milestones of life.

My office is located nearby at 1151 Massachusetts Avenue and I welcome the opportunity to meet you in person some day soon.
