Thanksgiving Food Packaging Service Project

Following the enormous success of last year’s community service project, this year we hope to package 40,000 nutritious meals for food-insecure children in Massachusetts! With your help, we will work together with the Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard, the Boston Interfaith Campus Coalition, and the Harvard Chaplains to distribute these meals through the Kids Care program at Outreach. Outreach’s Kids Care project partners with many faith, service, and civic organizations, as well as schools, communities, and businesses to host packaging events to which hundreds, sometimes thousands, of volunteers come to donate money and an hour or two of their time.

We need you, your communities, and your support. The Status Report on Hunger in Massachusetts notes that, in 2010, 10.8 % of households were food insecure. This is the highest rate recorded in the Commonwealth since this data was first collected in 1995. In order to stem this tide, we need to raise $10,000 (that's only 25 cents per meal!) before November 18. All of the funds go to the cost of food that you will be packaging. And we need you to help package all 40,000 meals on November 18...a great volunteer service project for all ages!

• Bring your contribution to the service event on November 18.
