Ben Gunter
Address: Swedenborg Chapel, 50 Quincy St., Cambridge, MA 02138
Ben Gunter serves as the Swedenborgian Chaplain at Harvard University, representing the historic Swedenborg Chapel situated just outside Harvard Yard.
A native of Pennsylvania, Ben was originally drawn to explore questions about human nature through a research career in psychology. After completing a research fellowship in developmental neuropsychiatry at Columbia and graduate studies in social neuroscience at UCLA, Ben settled in California.
In his theological studies at Berkeley, Ben served as a Clinton Foundation Fellow with the Graduate Theological Union, putting faith into action by way of radical compassion for those living on the margins. Ben’s work at the Church on the Hill in Boston and Swedenborg Chapel in Cambridge continues to combine traditional ministry with projects on public health and harm reduction.
Ben brings a pastoral presence grounded in the Swedenborgian conviction that spiritual growth unfolds through thoughtful reflection and active compassion. He is passionate about walking alongside students of all traditions, doubts, and worldviews as they navigate the intersections of intellectual inquiry, purpose, and inner life. Whether you are curious about Christian mysticism, seeking a quiet sanctuary amidst campus demands, or simply looking for a thoughtful conversation over coffee, Ben welcomes you to reach out.
